5 take aways from the Olay Skin Study

Post image for 5 Things I learnt from the Olay Skin Study

One of the things that tends to happen once you cross the age of 27-  you kind of want to know everything there is to know about anti ageing. So when  Olay released its r Multi Ethnicity Skin Study – where they studied the signs of ageing for each type of ethnicity and then looked at how this manifests itself across ethnicities- I was all ears. I jotted down  five key points that I think are useful for everyone to know. 1 . Indian Skin ages faster than other ethnicities

According to the study, Indian women have a weak skin barrier, which means retaining moisture is harder. With a fragile and sensitive skin barrier, essential moisture is lost every day and skin can be more reactive to the environment. Because of this, skin can become dry, which can lead to a lack of luminosity. Along with a loss of hydration, having a weak skin barrier means skin is more susceptible to external ageing factors, such as UV exposure and pollution, which increases the rate at which skin ages.

2 Skin age, unlike Real Age is reversible

Unlike Real Age, Olay says that some parts of skin age are actually reversible and with the right kind of care and products, you can undo the damage done to your skin. Combine a good diet, no excessive UV exposure and a proper skin care regimen and you could potentially reverse the signs of ageing.

3. Psychological stress ages skin too

So its not just about sun rays, about taking care of your skin and how you maintain it, but also what goes inside your brain. This psychological stress can go as far as to weaken one’s skin barrier function allowing more irritants, allergens and infectious agents to penetrate the skin and cause problems, as well as shortens the molecular countdown mechanism in our cells and may explain how stress causes us to age more quickly, even faster than our own body

4. The first sign of ageing for Indian women is pigmentation, followed by dryness & deep lines

If you are experiencing some pigmentation in your skin chances are you are experiencing the very first signs of ageing which can start as early as 25 ! This is followed by dryness and then ofcourse deep lines as you get older in life. This is in tune with Olay’s 7 signs of ageing: Fine lines and wrinkles, rough texture, the appearance of prominent pores and age spots, uneven skin tone, surface dullness, and dryness

5. Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) and Pro-Vitamin B5 are important ingredients to look out for

Each of the three key ingredients is clinically proven to make a measurable and noticeable difference to the appearance of skin. Olay contains – Vitaniacin™ which  is a unique patented combination of Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) and Pro-Vitamin B5  (Panthenol) – a powerful ingredient combination that actively helps strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier, penetrates the skin’s outer layers to fight multiple signs of skin ageing.

Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) proven to:

  • Reduce hyperpigmentation and improve skin tone

Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) proven to:

  • Moisturise leaving skin feeling soft and smooth2
  • Protect skin from free radical damage supporting even skin tone and texture2

Pro-Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) proven to:

  • Provide skin with hydration benefits for a visible reduction in roughness, scaling and improvement in skin elasticity
  • Soothe skin, improve skin barrier and help mitigate SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) induced damage to skin3
